A lucky lotto player has failed to claim the $15 million jackpot that would guarantee a very merry Christmas. Golden Casket yesterday said it suspected the instant millionaire did not know of the win.
The numbers came up in Thursday night's Powerball draw, but yesterday the golden ticket was still nowhere to be seen. The lotto ticket was bought at NewsXpress in Indooroopilly Shoppingtown in Brisbane, where excited staff are asking customers to check their tickets.
David Hetherton, a Golden Casket representative for the store, said people were flooding the store claiming to have bought the lotto winning ticket and lost it. "Everyone wants to get their hands on the $15 million," he said.
It's believed to be the second biggest lotto win in Queensland and it's not the first time a multimillion-dollar ticket has gone unclaimed. In July last year, Queensland's biggest Powerball mystery was solved when a Brisbane builder claimed $23 million. The man, from Bracken Ridge, took 14 months to collect his winnings.
