Ed and Michelle Edwards met over the internet in a dating website and got married six months ago. Besides finding their soul mate online, the Edwards also found luck in the net when they played the National Lottery online and won £1.9 million.
The couple from Yeovil has four children from previous marriages and currently lives in a rented two-room cottage, usually struggling to pay their bills. From now on things are going to change, though. Ed and Michelle are planning on buying a five-bedroom house in Sherbourne and travel with all their children.
Mr. Edwards was the first to find out they had won, but kept it a secret from his wife for a few hours, while he confirmed they had really won. “We were standing in a field with our two dogs when Ed told me and I jumped up and down, screamed and said I didn't believe him, I thought it was a joke,” Michelle said. “The first person I told was my sister, you're told to keep it to yourself but it’s very difficult, you just have to share that kind of news.”
Mr. Edwards works as a computer engineer and has taking a month off to decide his next move. Meanwhile, Mrs. Edwards has resigned her job as store manager and has already bought a new Mini Cooper convertible to replace the one she had to sell in order to pay for the bills after her divorce.
“It has been hard the past few years, we were always in our overdraft and relying on credit cards, living from week to week,” Mr. Edwards said. “But we have worked through it by making the most of what we have, we could never have got together a deposit for a house and I have worked my whole life so it'll be nice to have some time off.”
